10th Dan - Grandmaster - Uechiryu Karate
Sensei Jim Maloney began his Uechi training in 1963 and was elevated to the rank of 10th Dan in August of 2016. Sensei Maloney is the father of Uechiryu in Canada having opened his first dojo in Nova Scotia in 1973. Grandmaster Maloney is the Sipekne'katik District War Chief and was just recently inducted into his fourth hall of fame.
As a student at the famous Mattson Academy of Karate, Jim Maloney developed a reputation in New England as one of the top competitors in the region, fighting for the New England full contact team for six years and becoming champion. He is also well known for his training of great champion fighters karate-ka, kick boxers, and boxers over his long and illustrious career.
Mr. Maloney has made a career in training law enforcement officers internationally including many SWAT teams and the Pope's bodyguards. He has been featured in numerous publications including SWAT Magazine and Black Belt Magazine.
Sensei Maloney is a loyal student of Grandmaster George Mattson and is a Uechi Brother to Master Buzz Durkin - both training under GM Mattson for over 55 years! He will be teaching realistic life-saving techniques all taken from the Uechi kata. Sensei Maloney’s presentations are always enjoyable and informative as he blends his technical excellence with his outstanding sense of humor.
