10th Dan - Grandmaster - Uechiryu Karate

Sensei Jon Cierri has been studying martial arts since the early 1960s beginning his Uechi training at the world-famous Mattson Academy of Karate.

Sensei Cierri opened his first dojo in Hingham, MA in 1978. His mentor was the legendary Jack Summers and he accompanied Sensei Summers several times to Okinawa where he studied with Kanei Uechi, Ryuko Tomoyose, and Minoru Miyagi to name a few.

He served on the Board of Directors for the Karate Referee Association of New England (KRANE) and was very active with the tournament scene in the ‘80s and ‘90s. In the early ‘90s, he developed a system of self-defense called “Circle of Safety” calling upon his many years as a law enforcement officer to make the program a standout.

He received his 10th Dan in January of 2019.
