Marcus Traynor
8th Dan - Uechiryu Karate
Marcus Traynor began his training with Mr. Durkin in 1990 as a young teenager and never missed a week of training since!
In 1997, he was promoted to the position of Head Instructor. He is a registered Shihan or Master Instructor with the Uechiryu Butokukai.
In 2007 and 2012, Mr. Traynor received "Most Inspiring Instructor" award at the International Martial Art Convention. He is also a certified MMA strength and conditioning coach.
Mr. Traynor is the director of the Uechiryu Butokukai. As such, he is responsible for overseeing and organizing the promotions of more than two hundred Black Belt candidates annually, organizing instructional training classes, and oversees the development of instructional and historical literature that is sent to all the members of the Uechiryu Butokukai.
In 2017, Mr. Traynor founded New England Martial Arts Association. The first task was running George E Mattson’s Annual SummerFest. The 2017 Annual SummerFest was the promotion of the Uechiryu Butokukai’s head master - Buzz Durkin. A project that continues to this day in the form of UechiCon, a massive event which bring some of the worlds leading martial arts together for training.
In 2025, Mr. Traynor founded New England Martial Arts Foundation, a non-profit designed to assist people with their continued training in the martial arts.
Mr. Traynor enjoys every part of working in the martial arts, but especially seeing students grow in strength and confidence.
He currently lives in Auburn, NH with his wife of over 20 years. The two of them are the proud parents of senior ranking Uechi Black Belts, Bella and Henry Traynor.
