Thomas Piacentini
8th Dan - Uechiryu Karate
I began studying Uechi Ryu in 1971 at Master John Spencer’s Hartford CT dojo. In 1983 we began a long relationship with Master Shinjo, training under him in both North America and Okinawa since then. Over the years I have also trained with Masters Nakahoto, Thompson, Nakamatsu and Gushi who have also significantly influenced my study of Karate. I began teaching Uechi Ryu in the late 1970’s and have operated several dojos in between. I currently operate a small home dojo in Southwick MA.
His presentation will focus on improving your fighting skills. You will perform techniques with a partner exactly as you would apply them (rather than practicing drills). Please note that this is NOT a sparring seminar. We will begin with basic skills (techniques we practice every class) and enhance them through adjustments to body mechanics. We will then progress to more advanced forms of movement. ALL age groups / ranks are welcome. And when you return home you can practice on your own without a partner.
Some background is in order. Some time ago, despite training for over 15 years, I felt as though my practical fighting skills had plateaued. It was just not enough for me. I considered studying other martial arts and visited a number of schools to get some insight. To no avail. After researching successful fighters within the martial arts and boxing realms (and a great deal of trial and error) I found a path that worked for me. I have refined it over the years and my students and I have greatly benefited. I know you can as well
