Thomas Piacentini

8th Dan - Uechiryu Karate

I began studying Uechi Ryu in 1971 at Master John Spencer’s Hartford and in 1983 began a long relationship with Master Shinjo. I have regularly trained under him in North America, Europe and Okinawa and am a member of the Uechi Ryu Kenyukai organization, headed by Master Shinjo. Over the years I have also trained with Masters Nakahoto, Thompson, Nakamatsu and Gushi who have significantly influenced my study of Karate. I began teaching Uechi Ryu in the late 1970’s and have operated several dojos in between. I currently operate a small home dojo in Southwick MA.

This seminar will address some of the pitfalls of Uechi Ryu karate (and all karate styles). I truly believe that Uechi Ryu offers a path with no limitations, but the practitioner must take responsibility for their own growth. There are numerous ways to step off the path and your vigilance can minimize these. My perspective has evolved over the last 54y of training / teaching as I have constantly questioned my practice. The seminar will offer a mix of hands on training and interactive discussion. No topics are off limits, and please feel free to challenge what I say.
